what would you rather

atar of 88 but no girlfriend

or

atar of 78 but with girlfriend

respond
There is no disadvantage in terms of academic succes if you have a girlfriend.
When your girlfriend is in Yr12 as well and taking the same subjects I'd say you'll definetly do better compared to without.

I wouldn't trade my girlfriend in for a higher ATAR. A relationship should be worth more than that.

I would like to remind people that although your ATAR measures the amount of effort you have put into your VCE, it does not measure your true potential and full range of abilities. We have all met people with an ATAR of 70 who we rate very highly, and people with an ATAR of 99 who we do not rate at all.
Therefore, if you have any regrets on Monday, use it as an opportunity to fire you up for the future. You can get the academic side of things back on track within 12 months, if you so wish.

I have had no time to be sacred. I leave on the 18th so I've been busy packing and working. And I feel as though I have a billion and one things to do before I leave and I actually have no time to worry.
But then there is my mother who is super nervous :P

Oh break's over, time to get back to work!
Good luck y'all (:

An interesting idea to pose. What if you don't get the ATAR you want and it's perhaps because you were getting too distracted with your girlfriend/boyfriend? How would you then feel if the relationship didn't last? Just want to hear people's thoughts, that's all. :)

Great convo!!
I guess that could happen if your too involved. :) Me and my bf have been going out since year 9 . We had a system going on , so depending on homework and sacs during the week we would meet and once a month or two months we organized a movie or something.
this year , even with a bf, i still achieved the results that i wanted to and he did too. Haha!
I think it depends on the people in the relationship !

You do pose an interesting idea Stick. Coming from my point of view, I see that when one or both of the partners are in Year 12, you can still make a relationship work but it takes a little more understanding and less time spent together unfortunately.

You have to know that the chances of you breaking up with teenage girlfriend is in the 90s percentile wise apparently (heard that some where) but I still reckon that the experiences you gain from one are so beneficially to growing up and having new memories to look fondly on.

Don't let year 12 stunt a budding relationship, IMO. It may be a tad harder to manage your time (especially if you are a new couple), but I have, and many others, have achieved more than they expected in VCE with a significant other.

Never regret your decisions because at one point, they were what you truly believed you wanted.

I asked out a girl two weeks before my English exam cause you know, you only live once and all ;P

P.S. We broke up well before the English exam.

Was it a stupid decision? Yes. It was pretty stupid.

Did it hurt my English score? Kind of.

Do I regret it? Not at all, cause at the time, it was what I wanted.

So don't worry so much guys, in the end things are just what you make of it, look onto things with an optimistic eye and you will be rewarded for it.

A girl walked up to me one day and said "YOU'RE MY BOYFRIEND NOW" and I said "OKAY" but we broke up the next day because I wouldn't share my smarties with her. THEY WERE MY SMARTIES GOD DAMMIT. Also we were 4 years old and in kindergarten.

P.S. What is this thread about?

Yeah, forgot VCE and studies, I have parents to worry about. I ain't got no time to explain that. I'd just get a beating and a couple of lectures from my dad haha.

I think it would be pretty awesome to be in a relationship during VCE. Isn't it kind of beneficial in a way. When it's really stressful, you have that person especially to go to for a bit of peace.

But as you said about the probability of break ups and stuff, I don't want to commit to a relationship knowing that it has a high chance of collapsing. Judging by my school, they (students) don't know what they want at this age... And there is very little seriousness and maturity.

But as a wise man once said "Never regret your decisions because at one point, they were what you truly believed you wanted. " So I guess for some, it wouldn't be that bad.
