chancellor's scholar program

The chancellor's scholar program requires an atar of 99.90. Since it's a different vtac code the clearly in is obviously different (eg biomed). Would having SEAS lower that 99.90 cut off for chancellor's scholar like it does with the other undergrad courses or would it still remain at 99.90?

I'm fairly confident that SEAS doesn't do anything for the cut-off of Chancellor's Scholars, but I'm happy to be proven wrong. I've always thought that it was 99.90+ or nothing (unless there is little demand where they will consider 99.85s as well).

If SEAS applied to this I wouldn't want to live in this world any more.

By the same token, if a student was hospitalised for 2 months during the year with a serious illness and still managed say, a 99.80, would that not be as meritorious as a 99.90 for a student who did not have this disruption ?

Still, I get your point :)

If a student were hospitalised for two months and was attempting to get a score above 99 they might consider delaying their VCE a year to be honest.

This thing goes to like, so few people.  They should keep it that way.

Not sure if this helps -

http://futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/admissions/pathways/access-melbourne/guaranteed-entry-access-melbourne-2012

You achieve the following ATAR or notional ATAR:
78 or above — guarantees a place in Arts, Environments or Science
88 or above — guarantees a place in Commerce
95 or above — guarantees a place in Biomedicine

In addition you get a scholarship of $13,500 over the duration of your under grad studies.

So why should that student be able to take the spot of the person, who actually achieved 99.90+?

Agree, SEAS is fine for like, general access but not for something with so many limited places and a clear description of what is required.  ATAR for entry is demand based, this is completely merit based.

I said nothing about taking someone's place.
I said that there is a case for SEAS to apply across the board, including National Scholarships.
I have different ideas about 'merit', and they usually get me into trouble, but I don't care.

Without SEAS, UoM admissions would be completely dominated by APS, AGS, GSV and Selective schools.
Furthermore, who is to say that a 99 from [insert name of low SES and underrepresented government school] is not as meritorious as a 99.90 from an elite private school. Some would say it is more deserving of a National Scholasrship.

You don't have to go to an elite private school to get a 99.90.
The fact that it's 0.9 less tells me it's not as meritorious.

These schools are resourced to be ATAR factories.

Has anyone tried to get a 99.90 in a low SES school, or a remote regional school, where you can't do the LOTE of your choice, you can't do Latin, you can't do Specialist Maths, you don't have access to the best teachers (who prefer to work in the Independent sector), you don't have access to tutors, peer competition etc etc?
