Why do schools send out the physical certificate?
« on: December 18, 2012, 12:08:08 pm »
After opening my mail and having everything inside except the actual VCE certificate I was informed that its sent to schools, and then my principal informed me they receive them in a couple days and then given to us.

Is there any specific reason why this is done, rather than enclosing it with the ATAR and results?

I'm just making a few guesses, could be completely off, but maybe:

Since it's the piece of documentation that proves that you've finished high school,  the actual VCE certificate would probably need to be treated with a bit more care. They couldn't fold it in a letter like they do with results etc. Seeing that they have quite a lot of them to send, it might make the postage cost go way too high if they need to send one of those reinforced A4 envelopes to every VCE student in the mail. I would assume that it'd be cheaper to send them in bulk to schools.

Maybe for the school to confirm that all students have received it too. The results letter could get lost in the post or ignored by students etc.

Yeah true. I can see the value many would place on such a document and might decide to frame it etc. and having it come in the post folded (or wet if it was pouring rain) may not be the best idea.

Would've been useful if VCAA had mentioned the school recieves it though, in their letter explaining the contents of the envolope  :-[ Hope I wasn't the only one who realised they just finished their Victorian Certificate of Education and didn't have an actual y'know, certificate.  ::)
