BActuarial at ANU or Commerce (major actuarial) at Monash?

Can anyone help please?

BActuarial at ANU and BCommerce (major actuarial) at Monash, which one is better?
I prefer ANU because the fee is so much cheaper and higher ranking than Monash
But my mum disagrees because I dont know anyone in Canberra and if I'm sick or in case of emergency etc, no one helps me. And Canberra is very new to me, I've never been there before, need to transit in Mel then fly to Canberra. I need to move lots of stuff as well

Any ideas? So confused atm

I don't much about the relative merits of the two courses, but I can tell you that you are unduly worried about a move to Canberra, particularly if you decide to live in one of the residential colleges at ANU. You will have no difficulty at all adjusting to this and the social opportunities are good. Let's face it, there are thousands of kids who spend their school days as boarders. It's not a bad life.

BTW have you thought about UNSW? Better social environment (closed to Sydney CBD) and is considered equal standard to ANU in actuarial studies according to many people I've talked to.

BTW, Melbourne is also a very good uni for actuarial studies (exemptions for both steps 1 and 2 whereas Monash only provides exemption to stage1) and our finance department is probably on par (or even better) than ANU's

You might not know anyone in Canberra yet, but again you can always make friends. It might seem daunting at first, but don't let it get in your way  -- it's a very clearable hurdle.

I havent thought of studying at UNSW. Do we apply via UAC as well? Maybe I will do some research about this uni

Thanks. Yeah I know. I already experienced this situation 2 yrs ago and it was horrible memories but anyway, things will get better as we stay longer ^^

Remember that there will be a bunch of people from ATARNotes at ANU, myself included, so you won't be totally alone!

What about BA.S at UNSW? Like A.S at ANU, its 3 years for an exempt for Part I accreditation. Not too sure about differences in fees.

The fee is $33,360 per year at UNSW, just the same with UoM
