You aren't going to get away doing Spesh 3/4 without 1/2.. definitely (I doubt your school will even allow it)
Swap now or midyear

P.S Spesh sucks

My school has only 60 students, and there isn't a Spesh class thats opened; so my plan was to do Distance Ed Spesh 3+4 next year and have a tutor + TSFX Master Classes. I know many people who did 1+2 Methods and apparently that complemented Spesh 3+4. I adore Methods! Its probably one of my favourite 1+2 subjects at the moment!

Lol. In 2012 my school's Spesh class averaged 33-34 raw and they all only did Methods in Year 11.
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

Hey guys, so glad to have found this thread! Support is needed in large quantities and urgently d:

A Maths related question, to go with the trend:

So I'm currently doing Methods (1/2) and just got first SAC results back - 76%, the topics being basically revision of last year (linear and quadratic graphs, matrices). Last year I got 80% on end of year exam, plus failed Quadratics. The question is, if I don't enjoy Maths, am not naturally good at it and generally can't motivate myself in it, should I switch to Further? With these kind of Methods results (albeit minimal study for that SAC) could I do well in Further (above 45 well)? Thanks!

Aaahh, not really. It's not that rare to see people doing Specialist without doing GMA. I can attest at least that Distance Ed spesh does teach everything you need to know from scratch, and the content contained in the study design/textbooks for Specialist 3/4 also covers everything you need to know from scratch.

Distance Ed spesh was pretty good, I think there was a thread somewhere where I said pretty much what I have to say about it (here: Re: Specialist by correspondence). There's a few other users from previous years that have made posts outlining what DECV spesh is like. I didn't really feel the need for a tutor, but yeah I guess that's up to the individual.

Do you think that I should wait until the end of the year and see how I find Methods, and then ask my teacher what he thinks, and then make the decision? I am a bit edgy about that though, because I know that my unit 2 Methods exam mark will probably be like a C or a B because I'll only have two weeks to catch up after studying for my Bio + Further Maths exams... so I'd probably just have to make a quick decision.. I'll definitely be thinking about this during the year!

Nah, stick with methods. Seriously.
Despite the 'easiness' of further (trust me, it's getting harder), and the likelihood that you would get a decent study score, I find that methods is much more rewarding.
You actually get challenged: you think more, analyse more, become more aware of the little tricks in questions.
Definitely do methods, at least until the end of year 11. Then, you can make a more informed choice.

Did anyone else do two 3/4s in Year 11 :O. How'd you find the experience? I feel like I might end up neglecting my 1/2s or something.  :-\

yours truly here c:
and i swear to the lord, i've been doing 1:30am allnighters b/c of two 3/4s.

Dunno it's up to you, what your teacher thinks doesn't really matter, but hopefully there'd be at least one maths teacher at your school that can help you with spesh stuff (dist ed teachers were pretty helpful as is). I wouldn't put too much weighting on grades... but why are you already predicting your end of year 11 exam results? Why not just try your best?

I really think that this may counter-productive as you're really not getting much sleep, and also not necessary considering you only have two 3/4s. Aim to get 7-8 hours of sleep during VCE.

Throughout Year 12 I still managed to do a sufficient amount of work for my five 3/4s, and the latest I stayed up was 11 on a weeknight.

I think you may be doing it wrong then... There's no need for *any* all-nighters in VCE.

It's really not that intense.

as for unnecessary allnighters, it's because i'm disorganised and easily distracted :c

Then you need to make a conscious effort to change that.

Same, I usually get distracted, then the sac creeps up on me and I end up cramming heaps.   :'(
How'd you go on your first bio sac?
