Was going to ask for those people studying chem - how do you guys best study it/revise it. Writing notes? Reading textbooks? Or just doing trial exams?

I haven't yet figured out the best way to revise for the end of year exam and am super interested in hearing your thoughts.
I tend to write notes but I'm wondering if its as effective as just doing trial exams.
Ikr, it's so hard to find a technique that works well :(. Chem is not  such a "memorising" subject like Bio so I guess doing questions is much better than writing notes if you have familiarised with the concept. I mainly use notes in class + hand outs + checkpoints for Chem, company exams are quite annoying since they can sometimes write things wrongly -,-! If I really run out of questions from checkpoints, I'll do trial exams. Oh besides, throughout the year, I realise that explaining to others on AN or helping friends out after school are really beneficial. If you can explain something in your own words to somebody and get them to understand, then that's x10000 worth than writing chunks of notes. Hope that helps :D!

Yeah that really does.

Totally agree on the explaining thing though. Amazing how easily you can consolidate your understanding but literally explaining something to someone.

How'd it end up going?

Hey it went alright thanks. Finished everything aside from two last paragraphs and I spoke to my teacher today and she said at least I made a start and I could take a little more time. Thanks :)

Personally I am a fan of doing bulk questions as study, to get into the feel of what knowledge is required for each type of question. I find the Chem Notes and the Checkpoints books to have some pretty decent questons. Other than that I choose an exam paper and pull out the relevant Q's to complete. These are usually just old VCAA ones but Insight has a few that are alright too. I have made a set of que cards for unit three with it being more memory stuff, but I barely used them before the SAC and I doubt I will end of year either...

How was everyone's (mostly) first week back? Productive? Tiring?

I'm feeling pretty pumped for our last term of schooling! Except for UMAT for which I'm trying to forget about...haha

I am sooo tired. This week I had no sacs but it was preparation for the 3 sacs I have next week. However, I do feel I have a more positive attitude this term and am striving to do my best and get that dream atar :)

When's the UMAT? (got no idea because I'm not taking it - I'm just curious as to when it is)

I had the day off today (thank you staff PD day  ;) ). Started re reading The Reluctant Fundamentalist for English, and got stuck into some Unit 3 Bio and HHD revision. Then I made jelly slice and went out for coffee. Day well spent me thinks.

My first week was marred by people recounting the events I partook in while drunk on Saturday night, safe to say it wasn't pretty.

First week was good, feel I did pretty good on a Chem SAC for the first time in forever, always a nice feeling. Even when your calculator dies half way through the sac.

Also walkec have you started your creative writing piece for Unit 4 Lit assessment yet?

I haven't actually started writing the piece itself. But we have been given the SAC task sheet and brainstormed possible ideas in class. Our text is Dark Roots by Cate Kennedy. Pretty sure I know what my idea is, so I've just started by re reading it and taking detailed notes on the language and style of Kennedy within the short story I'm using and things about the character because I'm adding to the story. I figure doing this will help me really get into the essence of how Kennedy writes and the mindset of the character. What about you?
