hey guys, thoughts on buying study guides for next year? I will definitely be buying checkpoints for my subjects but I'm not sure whether I should also be buying study guides, they are pretty costly. I'm also going to the summer school lectures so I'll be getting notes, so are the study guides still going to be essential?

They're certainly not essential no. I can get them fairly cheaply second hand so I'll be buying some.

Yesh.. buy checkpoints for sure ! :)
As you are doing psychology , the study guides are quite good ! :) A+ notes is good as well. I bought NEAP for psych and it didn't really help at all.
Methods...not really . I think practice exams are the best source of practice for the exams, but for sacs, I thought NEAP helped.

I wouldn't recommend buying checkpoints. They just contain questions from past VCAA papers and at the end of the year when you're revising for the exam by completing past VCAA papers, you've already been exposed to the questions. The papers are a decent indicator on how you'll perform on the exam so you'd want to complete them with no previous exposure. Just my opinion though :P

Buy checkpoints from like 2009 then the only questions will be from vcaa <2008
Which is better.

Accounting checkpoints was bad....
They were all like the same question just with different numbers and business names.

And they don't give you the proformas which is why I didn't buy it. You have to go online to get the proformas and print them off? No way!  :P

I did my mandatory head start homework. I wouldn't do much else. Yes, you only get one shot, but Year 12 is a marathon; at no stage should you be sprinting. That being said, I don't like being ahead of the class (I completely lose focus and struggle to multitask), so there was no need for me to do heaps of work. If you're different though, maybe doing a bit more wouldn't hurt.

I was at work for most of the holidays, so I'm probably not the best person to ask

As Stick said, Year 12 is a marathon, not a sprint - Good way to put it! I got through all of my Holidays Homework, but I didn't do a lot of extra study. Don't do the whole textbook for all your subjects, but may be do a chapter of 2 extra ahead of your class.

Everyone is different, and sometimes I get distracted as well in class, like Stick. But in Year 12, your teachers are gonna teach you the content, but they are gonna expect you to do the rest. You need to manage time very wisely - One of the key elements to surviving Year 12. If you fall behind, you've got a long road to catch up. So if you do have Time management issues, then do a FEW extra chapters over the holidays, but please don't do the whole book for each Subject! I've seen this mentioned a few times on AN.

So yeah, you need to work at the pace you feel comfortable with. Because Year 12 is all about you - Its whatever you want to achieve out of it. You get what you put in - But it doesn't mean you go ahead of your school by a lot of chapters, otherwise you will also forget content (Particularly for science subjects), but not so much for Maths subjects.
