Maths Grades?
« on: January 06, 2013, 10:27:45 pm »
Hey, I was just wondering if this sounds legitimate.
My friend got for the 3 grades in maths methods B C+ B
For maths the first letter grade is sacs, then exam 1, exam 2. She got a 30.
I got B, B, B and got a 29.
Could this just be because I got maybe a low B for sacs, she a high and I could have just got a B for exam 1, and she was near a B?

I also have a friend who got a 29 and had a C+ on the last exam and B for exam 1 and sacs.
Is this right?

It's possible, yes. The letter grades represent a fairly large range. All study scores sound entirely plausible.

Is this right too for physics, this is what I got: C+ A A+ and a 34...should it be higher or is it right?
it's too hard to tell from the grades alone, you need the score + the grade cut-offs. an A+ A+ A+ can get you as low as 38

And yet an A+ B+ A+ can get you a 41, (this was spesh though, but similar deal applies)

I don't know..because according to Paul's study score prediction guide, if all these grades were low then my min study score would have to be around 35..but then again the guide may only calculate  rough estimations of an ss. :/

It's all correct.  VCAA know what they're doing. You letter grades could be incorrect but the score that's netted from whatever three assessments you get will be correct.

I know a guy who got straight B+ for methods and got 28, he also got straight A+ for legal and got 35.  Letter grades don't really mean a lot in the end.

I know another friend who got straight A+s and got 37.  As I said, grades mean nothing.

For 2011, you needed the following to get an A+:

SACS: 93-100 (out of 100)
Exam 1: 36.5 - 40 (out of 40)
Exam 2: 50.5 - 60 (out of 60)

http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/statistics/vce_further_maths_ga11.pdf
The A+ cutoff for 2012 hasn't come out yet.

Edit: It's really easy to get the grades for further, in the sense that the content isn't actually very difficult. But it's also hard seeing as because the content is relatively easy, it's much easier to make a mistake and lose marks. I hope that makes sense. :P

wish they would give more details rather than just grades
Had a similar situation like this, except I got A A+ A+ for 41 in methods.
i can't live up to genius Euler :-(
