Hahaha i got 93% like my last go.. but I got my teacher to re-mark and and i lost like 4 marks.. (N)..
But i'm pre good with multiply chooice i only get like two wrong....

I just gotta fix my short answer which are really badly worded, but i get what i mean.. Does that make sense ? Hahaha .

And I always tend to finish my exams with like 40 minutes spear..... So I really gotta slow down - probz why my wording is so bad hhaha :)

With psychology I think majority scored really high on the multiple.
It's the specificity of the short answer questions that determine the difference.
I've done about 12 practice exams, just gonna get a good sleep:D
Biology was nerve wracking haha
Then chem straight after psych><

Hope everyone does well:)

i did 1 practice exam lastnight n i got 93%. i was shocked. it was the 2008 one.

The 2008 one was the only practise exam I completed, I focussed instead on studying more. I got around the same score 92% to 94% and I was pretty happy. In retrospect I'm glad I only did the 2008 one as the other ones were hard and would have shaken my confidence.

This year's exam seems a little harder than the last.

BRAIN AND NERVOUS SYSTEM

Question 1: Broca's area, left frontal lobe
Question 2
a- Cannot name the object as seen in the left hemisphere- corpus callosum is severed so cannot be sent over to the right hemispshere for recognition
b- Can point with their right hand
c- cannot name the object
d- can point with their left hand (as right hemisphere controls left side of the body)

Question 3
- Self inflicted pain during control questions can artificially elevate ones baseline level
-A guilty person will show similar physiological arousal when relevant questions are asked in comparison to control questions due to them self inflicting pain which increases physiological arousal.
- A guilty person could be considered innocent as they show similar physiological arousal to relevant and control questions.

Question 4
A- Sympathetic
B- Increased heart rate, increased blood pressure
C- More blood flow to arms and legs which prepares Alyse to either escape (flight) or confront (fight) the threat.

Question 5
A
- CT uses X-rays to take pictures of your brain from different angles
- Series of X-rays are then used to make a cross section (slice) of the brain
B- CT scan repeats are limited due to the X-rays. MRI scan repeats are ok.
C- Difficulty with complex mental functions. e.g. planning, analysing, reasoning

Question 6
A- David could feel depressed.
B- The sympathetic nervous system inhibits digestion as it directs its resources to the more important task of fighting and adapting to the stressor.

VISUAL PERCEPTION
Question 7
a- draw the second balloon closer to the horizon
b- Closer trees have more perceptible detail and the more distant trees have decreasing perceptible detail

Question 8
Size constancy is the tendency to perceive an object as maintaining its size despite any changes that occur to the size of the image cast on the retina.
When we are crossing a road, we perceive the cars in the distance as maintaining their size- remaining constant size and do not see them as just small objects and start walking.

Question 9
a- Perceptual set is the readiness to perceive a stimulus in a particular way which leads you to focus on some aspects while ignoring others (selection).
b i- Context
b ii- If you see a man running on the street with a gun you feel scared. But if you see a security guard with a gun outside of a bar, you feel safe and secure.

Question 10
a- Occurs when the actual perception is in conflict with the 'objective' reality consistently.
b- The line with the feather tails is seen as longer than the line with the conventional arrowheads.
Perceptual compromise- overall lengths of the figures are unequal and distance between the tips is unequal.

Question 11

A- Selection of participants wasn't random- not every member of the population had an equal chance of being chosen to take part in the study. Not representative of the population.
B- Not done randomly. Participants did not have an equal chance of being placed into the experimental and control groups.

STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Question 12
Cognitive change: Jim's thought processes may be disorganised and less logical.
Perceptual change: Jim's sensory thresholds including pain may either be heightened or lowered.

Question 13
A i- Detects, amplifies and records electrical activity in the muscles near the eye (muscles responsible for controlling eye movements).
A ii- Detects, amplifies and records electrical activity in the brain.

B- Little or no electrical activity (Non Rapid Eye Movement Sleep)

C- Sleep spindles- brainwaves of high bursts of frequency
  - K Complexes-brainwaves of high bursts of amplitude

D- The time spent in REM increases as the night goes on.
  - Nightmares occur during REM sleep so are most likely to occur towards the morning as that is when we spend more time in REM Sleep than at the beginning of the night.

Question 14
A- Participants involved in both the experimental and control conditions.
Experimental- meditate before bed
Control- no meditation before bed

B- Eliminates the effects of individual differences. In an independent groups design, participant characteristics may cause bias between groups.

Question 14
C- Be informed of the nature of the research.
  - The risks and the requirements.

Question 1 (a) i am pretty sure is wrong: we learned in school that BOTH hemispheres can in fact recognise, but ONLY the left hemisphere can verbalise what is recognised. In that case, the answer to that question should be that the person can name the object since info is sent to left hemisphere.

Is there a mutual consensus on this?

The outcome of Sperry's resesarch was that the right was dominant in recognition and the left dominant in language.
How do the rest of my answers sound?

Yea the rest seems to be correct (MC Question 39 is a bit debated as technically REM is called paralyzed). I am actually very confident now that question 1 (a) in SA is wrong. In the Grivas textbook, on page 91, it is very explicitly stated "In response to images flashed in the left visual field (and sent to the right hemisphere), N.G named the objects." Hence recognition takes place in both hemisphere BUT it's the verbal functions that have specialized roles and as such the images flashed onto left hemisphere would be NAMED.  I hope you agree...

2a was when the object was sent to the RVF- Left Hemisphere. So it cannot be sent to right hemisphere for recognition.

I think that while the right hemisphere is dominant is visual recognition, it isn't absolutely responsible for it.

Something in the left visual field will go to the right hemisphere. The split brain patient will know what they saw but they won't be able to express it verbally or even put a name to it inside their head.
