Monash mbbs - laptop required?

So similar threads have covered the same issue. I was just wondering if a uni laptop is necessary for the mbbs course. I've already got a laptop, but considering that there are computers on campus, how necessary is it? How often do you need to take it to uni?

LOl I'm assuming I sound like a major jaffy...  :P

Most people have one (a lot of Macs <- med kids trying to be hipster and cool and failing dismally, soz Thush :P).

Positives:
- Easier to take notes if you don't like printing off lecture slides all the time
- Saves you carrying all of the 25+ textbooks on the textbook list :P
- Access to internet wherever you want
- Gives you something to do during epidemiology tutes and lectures :D

But an ipad could suffice? I just hate the though of carrying round a laptop, especially after high school

It's harder to make notes on an iPad imo, but many just have an iPad and I guess that works too :)

If you get something like a 11" Macbook Air, the weight difference isn't that much but the convenience over an iPad is a lot. I always found typing faster on a physical keyboard(but that just might be me)

If you are getting a laptop, get an ultrabook. Macs are so over-priced for what they offer.

once I saw thush on his mac sitting on the floor in the corner of the library studying away and the other time he was madly typing notes while touching his neck and arm whilst speaking in med-language (revising his notes I assume?)

I actually love my Macbook Pro 13". Only issue I have is that some software is only available on PC (such as OrCad for EE majors) which means you're going to have to get Parallels or Virtual Box.

The price comes down quite a lot for refurbished models though.

Bootcamp ftw.. I'd just set a small partition up for windows. I wanted to run CAD software on mine for the lols. But I'm not too sure if the videocard (HD4000) will be able to handle even basic models.. That said, it does play Portal 2 really well. :D
