I'd like to buy a telescope. Suggestions?

I have a very narrow budget for it. I'm just beginner...What should I look for? Suggestions?
2012 ATAR:88.90

2013-2015 Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and Science (dropped in 2015)
2015-2017 Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)

It depends. What are you going to use it for? Astrophotography? Bird watching? Stalking?

It depends. What are you going to use it for? Astrophotography? Bird watching? Stalking?
Currently for planetary observations but my ultimate aim is astrophotography of deep sky

^ make friends with a lecturer or some phd students. They have access to telescope and also the hutton Westfold telescope in Monash which is quite powerful and more than enough for basic astronomy.

Personally I find that the price tag of good telescope is too high when they're so easily available for free in Monash.

that's only if I go to monash...I was thinking the same as well :) but if i cant get into monash and end up at rmit? I have to buy one then :)

I'm quite sure that rmit and most of the bigger institutions will have good telescopes as well.

Meade and Celestron make good telescopes but you'll have to be prepared to pay a few hundred dollars just to buy an entry level one.
