English language for Science/math students

I have heard and seen people mention(other forums) that english language suits a science/math student better as appose to normal english.
Is this true ?
English is by far my worst performing subject and i don't like it which means i don't give it my all, which again become my worst performing and the cycle continues.

Is English language workload greater than that of english ?
Would i do it without having done 1&2 ?
What can i do to catch up with other students ?

Thank you :)

Quoting from my guide found here: A Guide to English Language for New/Prospective Students

Quote
"I heard that people who are good at maths and science, or who are a bit 'musically minded' are better suited to this subject?, is this true?"

They say that English Language 'suits' students who are strong in math and science because these subjects require analytical skills and the ability to pick out discrete details and patterns in their respective fields. You may need a set formula or approach to solving something.
They also say that these students enjoy the fact that they find most of their answers in the textbook, and do not necessarily require good creative writing skills, or skills which require their own interpreation of a text.
Having said this, people who enjoy music, or have a inept ability, or simply love language, will be suited to English Language.
In my opinion, you need to really enjoy the subject. You need to have a sense of excitement about the subject and that you're a linguist! You must love words!

workload wise, english language is NOT a bludge, it takes up time ,yes.
Depending on how dedicated you are, the workload is going to vary...
for me personally, the workload was immense at times but at other times it was fine.

you can do 3/4 without 1/2, just means you'll have to learn your metalanguage well, and read up on how english language responses are done (use sample essays for e.g. or someones short answer sac)

English was also my worst subject in year 10, never liked the feeling of having to write creative pieces on the spot or writing on quite broad overarching themes, which is why i changed to englang. As bhootnike said, englang is defs not a bludge, you have to read widely, memorise pages of examples and quotes. Also you're competing with a smaller cohort, so its harder to score. In terms of the metalanguage, its an important aspect across all sections of the exam, more so in section 2 and 3 but if you haven't done units 1&2 i wouldn't stress but be sure to get a lot of practise on learning and applying those terms in your analyticals and essays during the year.

good luck :)
