Majors/Minors/Honours

Is it possible to do a major and two minors as part of the BA? It works in terms of achieving the required credits but are there any formal hurdles that would prevent you from doing anything other than two majors, a major and a minor or simply a major on its own?

Also, can you study Honours in a field which you did a minor in? Or does it have to be derived from a major?

You'll have to ask the dept.

I don't know anything concretely, but if I were to guess, I would imagine that it wouldn't be credited.

I'm completing all of the subjects needed for two majors in my science degree, but I can only opt to be credited for one of those.

Completely forgot that I asked this. Checked with the Arts department and they said that you would be credited for a major and two minors.

Haven't yet found an answer to the Honours question. I'll ask during O-Week.

But again like Tequila, I'm a science guy and not sure whether it works this way for BA.

The documentation is just your transcript, since your actual testamur doesn't make reference to your major on it

You normally can't do honours in a subject you only minored in. The uni might grant you an exemption, especially if you're undertaking joint honours relevant to two disciplines, but generally it's not a good idea. I found that in honours, even though I did have a major in my discipline, there was still a lot of work to do in just understanding the current theories that underpin the discipline during the year. It would be really hard work if you hadn't done a full major, IMO.

Minor is an arts thing. It's like half a major. They don't have it in biomed.

As far as I know from when I went to the open days at UoM, as long as you complete the required 6 breadth subjects within the one area of study, whether it be music, a language, history etc, you should be credited as a minor in that area.
