Syncing Monash account with phone

Since Monash email uses Gmail I figured that I could just set up a new Google account to sync on my SGS2.
But I've tried and it seems that I can't.

Is there any way for it to sync WITHOUT having my Monash emails forwarded to my personal Gmail account?
I can do this but I'd prefer to keep the accounts separate.

I dunno for SGS2 but for Iphone, all I have to do is to connect my monash email and key in the password. It acts like a google account so I don't get why are you trying to create an additional google account?

So just add account, monash email adress and password? :S doesn't work for me

I have a Galaxy Ace, it has the Gmail app on it, right.
Just plugged in the details, works perfectly.

Have two separate accounts working on that app, on problem :O

I have 2 personal Gmail accounts working but when I enter in my Monash details it says this:

I'm 100% sure my details are correct though.

Just in case, are you typing [Username]@student.monash.edu for your username?

I'm having the exact same problem. I have a Galaxy Note 2 and i am typing [Username]@student.monash.edu but it still does not work.
I have also enabled syncing and IMAP but nothing seems to work for me. Any suggestions on how to make it work?

You running stock rom or an AOSP custom rom?

Could be an AOSP limitation.

Sorry about the late reply. I haven't rooted my phone so i think its on stock rom. I think it'll be easier to just link it with a new gmail account. Thank you for the help though.

How do I do it with an iphone it's not working for me
I'm getting "the user name or password for imap.google.com is incorrect"

Hi guys.

The recent change to the monash account has stuffed everything up: before i had it working nice, synced with the Gmail app on my Iphone. Now though i cant get it to work; i have to use the monash app which doesnt have notifications:( and is slow.

Does anyone know of a solution?
Please help if u do.

When signing into the Gmail app, add .au to the sign-in address (i.e. [authcate]@student.monash.edu.au) instead of the conventional ".edu". Works for me on my iPhone!
