Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!
The principal has just asked me to perform my oral presentation in front of the entire school on monday. I'm freaking out pretty badly haha, but I really want more people to know the truth about factory farming, so I've agreed to do it... :|
Very proud.
I've two things I want you to remember like they were gospel.
1) you're doing what's right and may not be easy, so regardless of how uneasy you feel, remember the first four words.
2) something that has served me well consistently through the later years of my life: your perception of you and the way others perceive you are two different things. Recognise the intertwined nature of expectation and perception. They know you are there because your speech was good. Therefore, they expect a good speech. Perhaps this fact alone would make you nervous re: failin someone's expectations,
however, because of this expectation people will perceive your speech as excellent regardless. It is human nature not to change your beliefs. Racists will see something bad in anything a black man does. Homophobes will see something bad in every gay man or woman, regardless of the good. Similarly, before you even begin your speech, they think that it is excellent. Know that: there is nothing to fear but fear itself. You have got this. It's yours. You own it, and they will believe what you show them. I know for a fact that wherever I go, no matter how nervous I feel, people are perceiving me as socially confident. Just recognise that people are perceiving you as excellent regardless of any slip ups, fumbles, forgotten lines etc, and things might seem a bit better. 100% confidence in you, your speech is excellent. You will dominate so long as you allow yourself to.
