I actually thought that my school was one of the only schools that did this. However, one of the English teachers at my school (who is a VCAA assessor) said it's very common and that she is currently marking trial GAT essays for two other schools at the moment. :S

I'm not sure if it's worth it, to be honest. I guess it's good to expose yourself to the format of the test before sitting it, but that should probably be the responsibility of the student, rather than the school forcing everyone to do it. Although, if they didn't do this at my school (aka apathy central), the SAC marks would essentially get moderated down to incredibly low levels.

Our school doesn't do practice GAT's, but they do hold practice exams and SAC's on the same week. And people begin to stress heaps about it.

(I've got a GAT information session tomorrow period 4 lol)

Yeah, I have mock Unit 3 exams for Biology and Chemistry.

Some teachers have decided to use practice mid year exams as SAC's instead. Is anyone else's school doing that? I'm 50/50 on it. I do seem to feel that it'd be beneficial to us if we could try applying what we've learnt thus far in an exam environment though..

Yeah this is how it is for all my subjects! :/
I'm also 50/50... I mean, it's stupid that they count, but then beneficial in that it makes us actually revise unit 3 content properly so we don't perform badly

My physics teacher uses modified VCAA exams which is a pain cause I'm trying to save them and he's pulling the curve balls straight off the papers.

Ahhhhh, classic Jeggz :P

Most people in my school are actually for it, but that's because they want the SAC to only contain questions for that area of study. But personally, I don't want a 70 minute SAC, dragged on for 1 and a half hours or something!
