My bike lock won't open!
« on: January 31, 2013, 03:01:14 pm »

For the last three years my bike has been sitting in a car park collecting dust (definitely not recommended - it's completely grey now). Today I finally went down to clean it so it would be ready for me to take up to Canberra next week, but my key isn't opening the lock! My guess is that somehow the lock has partially rusted so the key doesn't fit anymore?

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions as to what I can do to get the lock open? Thanks! :(

The best thing you can do is:

.

If the lock has actually developed rust on the inside, it'll be extremely difficult to clean. Just cut it off and buy a new one :)

Just try to look unsuss as possible, put on your best hoodie and crocs.

Or you know, businessy type clothing, you'll probably get shitloads less looks.

Well if you were retarded and just locked the bike spokes to whatever you locked it to you could just unscrew the wheel and take away the bike frame with the remaining wheel away. It actually looks so suss but hey, you could probably do it quick enough. (robbertalk)

Or just put on a yellow vest, like a worker. No one will bat an eye, you can even rob malls like this. If anyone approaches you, repeatedly ask them to please step back.

Haha thanks for the suggestions guys! I don't have any tools powerful enough to cut through the lock so I'm going to go ask a locksmith today if they have any better ideas or get them to come help. Luckily the bike isn't in too public an area so no one's given me any strange looks yet.
