Nah, there are some compulsory things you have to attend. It depends on the faculty.

But, there's heaps of fun to be had at the optional stuff.

It's not compulsory but you get to sign up for clubs and get lots of free food and stuff. It's best to go :P

Nope it isn't compulsory but it's good to get a feel of how uni will be like and to probably know your class locations in advance (so you don't go running around like a lostcase on your first day :P ). And not to mention, getting tons of free stuff like stationeries, food, lollies and other random stuff haha I still have my metlink usb lol :P

If I remember correctly, they don't have any 'subject advice' sessions on O-week (I think that's all on A.A. Day?) so you pretty much just hover around picking up free stuff haha there are a lot of freebies to be had!

I was in second year last year and went to Melb Uni o-week with some friends. Didn't get that much freebies though, only notable thing was a good stationary kit from vodafone that I'm still using now.

Oh yeah and I don't even go to Melb Uni. You should know by second year that no one really cares what you do in uni :P
