Still going to uni after deferral

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend. He received 2 offers, one from University of Melbourne and one from University of Technology Sydney. He deferred the offer from UTS and is currently enrolled in UoM. However he might be moving to Sydney in the next year and he was wondering if there was a way he could attend Melbourne for a year and then accept his offer from UTS next year.

That might cause him to lose his deferred offer at UTS:

If you choose to defer the commencement of your course and you:

have previously deferred commencement of this course, or
are planning on studying a:
- TAFE course at AQF diploma level or above,
- private provider course at AQF diploma level or above, or
- course at another university
you will not be automatically guaranteed a place at UTS the following year.
Your application will be re-assessed, taking into account your academic record from your tertiary level study.
