I'm going for my p's fairly soon, but I don't know what the hell the hazards is. I've looked on the Vicroads website, but I only get that its some computer programmed test that tests you when to stop and turn (thats when you click?). Is it terribly difficult to pass? How do you do well? Is there anything I can do to prepare? What is the pass rate? If you fail, how long till i can go for it again?

Hazards are pretty easy and most people pass the first time they do them. To pass the HPT, you need to score at 54%, so you have a fairly large margin to err.

I strongly recommend you read the following carefully: Vicroads - Hazard Perception Test

I'm pretty sure they resemble the VicRoads ones, someone confirm pls.

Anyone know how many simulations they give?

I did mine two days ago.
You get 28 questions, and you have to get a minimum of 14 or 15 to pass the test. A screen pops up saying 'you are driving on a straight road' ... 'click the mouse button when it is safe to turn right' and then a video will play, and you have to get your click in a suitable time gap to get a correct answer.

other times it will say 'click the mouse button when you should slow down' and then a video will play. there are four practice videos that you can attempt before the test and you can do them as many times as you want.

It's fairly easy but people do fail.. the two next to me did. I recommend you youtube "hazards perception test vicroads" and watch the first 5-6 videos.

Depends on the person, I don't think they release out the statistics, nor do people often talk about how they went.

Driving in general is a pretty good way, that URL that the user 'drunk' provided can be used, but in general, it's more about clicking when it's safe to move or overtake etc. Also if you have glasses etc. make sure you wear them if you need them to see things properly, because even if you had no issues with your eyes, you can still have trouble seeing the images clearly in the screen (relatively commonly complained about). I have provided some information/tips below as well that will hopefully be of some use.

Assuming you fail, which I hope you don't, I think you can just rebook the next time slot available.

Tips:
You don't need to always click, sometimes, the answer is such that you shouldn't click if you feel there is no need to.
Don't be 'trigger happy' - i.e. click too quickly or click too often.
You will get some practice questions, go through them carefully, although they don't count there is a chance they will pop up in the actual graded one.
If there is a need to slow down, say from 60 to 50 because there is a sign, slow down after before you've passed the sign.

There are practise/sample questions on road authority sites from other states in Aus, just google hazard perception test australia or something. you'll find about 6 or so, but not much from VicRoads coz they are cunts

I was under the impression you had to slow down BEFORE you reach the limit sign, if you need to get to a slower speed. But that you have to speed up AFTER if the speed you need to reach is higher.

You're also meant to slow when (in the HPT) you see the car in front of you have break lights (sudden), when there is a green to yellow light switch (sudden), when a tram stops to let out/take on passengers, also there may be passengers who sneak out onto the road if you don't take notice, there's also a situation with in a country road where you're meant to watch out for a 'dust storm' that appears behind a car.

I did mine about 6 or so months ago, but they don't give percentages at least at the place I did it anymore, so I don't know how I went.

Nah I dont have anything against VicRoads BESIDES that MOTHERFUCKER of a test called the Hazard Perception Test. It is it the most ridiculous and pointless test on the planet. It relies on the theory of driving and videos that were shot from a fucking  VGA camera phone or something to determine how perceptive you are to shit on roads. Honestly, if I see some unidentifiable object on the road I'm not gonna slow down, I'm just gonna be like 'wtf is that' and keep driving. Similarly, in real life I'm not going to be like 'is that something on the road or just really shit quality video'  as when i was taking that goddamn test. I am sure somewhere out there there is a better test or a fucking 5 year old can think of a better test.

1 year after doing that test I'm still pissed off at it. I passed, but I'm still pissed LOL

I failed the first time I sat mine.
It wasn't the nerves either lol it's just really......silly.
I mean if it's based on safety then it's never "too early" to slow down (unless the cars behind you are fairly close and travelling at a high speed) when approaching an intersection, even if it means crawling up to the line. But they have this "safe zone" that they expect you to slow down in.

A pass is 54% and you can re sit as soon as you want, even on the same day if there's vacancy. I sat mine 3 days later and passed lol (phew).

The night ones are a little tricky. The first time I sat the test, something flew across my screen (in the video) and my instinct was to slow down (i dont know why lmao...thought it could have been debris from a distant truck or something) but the second time around, on the same question, I realize there was an intersection approaching.

Just be rational about it

Which is just about the worst thing you can do.

The video quality of Hazards is shit. Everyone sane would agree with that. However hazards on the road are hazards, you'd be idiotic to ignore hazards because you weren't anticipating them.
