How did you incorporate George Clooney?
« on: June 11, 2009, 04:22:40 pm »
I thought it was really stupid but I just HAD to put him in there. Personally, on the last line of my "bees" thing I wrote that people who own commercial beehives could earn incomes comparable to George Clooney.

i know a few people when they were doing writing task 1 (the bee one) who referred to the queen bee as george clooney. i put it in the second piece when i was talking about materialistic possesions. it was something like .... george clooney enjoys material possesions. i know someone who put material possesions such as george clooney. haha i'd be interested to see what the examiners have to say when they are reading all these GAT exams

"Will we ever be content if we only look up to high profile celebrities such as George Clooney?"

I've got a friend who, in his first piece, compared bees to george clooney through his WHOLE essay.
When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be AWESOME instead. True story.

There was an article in The Age about it today. Apparently the VCAA knew about it

http://www.theage.com.au/national/education/george-clooney-the-answer-for-vce-pranksters-20090611-c496.html

Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority public affairs manager Justin Shortal described the Clooney prank as "silly''.

"We expect VCE students to ignore it,'' he said.

VCAA would not comment on whether Clooney references would affect students' marks.

VCAA should be proud that students used important life skills such as organisation and critical thinking whilist incorporating George Clooney into a what would have been an uneventful essay. Everyone who used the Clooney prompt should give themselves a pat on the back and be awarded full marks for section B (context) of the English unit 3&4 exam. Like, yeah, totally.

I would like to respond directly to VCAA's wretched, uncivilized announcements. However, considering their inability to cope with the truth I feel that doing so would be a great disservice to VCAA at this time. Let me begin by saying that if one could get a Ph.D. in Antagonism, VCAA would be the first in line to have one. You can waste all your time arguing about how Tip can classify different types of fish. Or you can actually build a society in which people have a sense of permanence and stability, not chaos and uncertainty. I wish I didn't have to be the one to break the news that VCAA's seemingly egalitarian ideas lead only to results that are both socially inept and unfair. Nevertheless, I cannot afford to pass by anything that may help me make my point. So let me just state that VCAA's speeches leave the impression of an army of pompous phrases moving over the landscape in search of an idea. The issue of what to do about VCAA's uncivilized methods of interpretation is far from settled.

i go:

One who sees materiliastic possessions as a means of justifying accomplishment and satsifaction, then jealousy, corruption and greed may all become apart of daily life. It is assumed that an ordinary citizen cannot afford the same house or car as george clooney yet ... blah blah

My friend probably wins for the funniest George Clooney reference.

He told me that in writing task 1, (the bees article) he wrote, "There are three different types of bees in each hive. A fourth species of bee, called George Clooney, used to also be a part of the hive but it is now extinct."

LOL, or something to that affect.

hehehe i said something along the lines of

'We become so preoccupied with possessions that afford us luxuries that we take measures such as robbing casinos, evident in Ocean's Eleven, where Danny Ocean (played by the honourable George Clooney) was so engrossed with the wealth associated with money, he used his cunning and brilliance to obtain a possesion so many are sought after....' LOL :D

I must've looked funny cause i was laughing to myself when writing this heheheheh
