Hi appledesu,
I think the advice being given to do MTH1030, instead of MTH1035 is a good one, if you're really having a lot of trouble with the MTH1035 workshops. Nobody really makes a big fuss if you 'drop out' (by the end of the 2nd week when I did it, quite a few people had left). Practically none of us doing MTH1035 really understood what was going on (definitely in the first two weeks, at least). Really.
However, judging from your use of the word "tutorial", I'm wondering if you mean the hour in which you solve questions from the back of the (MTH1030) lecture notes. In this case, if you go back to MTH1030, you'll get two hours a week (as opposed to one) to have a go at these questions and ask your demonstrator how to go about them. I think you should stick it out with MTH1030 a bit more, even if you're finding the content a bit hard. I'm probably a bit biased here, but in my opinion, MTH1030 is the most well-taught out of the main first-year science maths units at Monash. There is the Maths Learning Centre if you want some help, and some of us here have done MTH1030 too, if you're looking for additional assistance.
Whatever your choice, I wish you all the best in your studies at Monash (dear me, I'm starting to sound like the Dean or something)!
