What does the question when it asks you to determine the, " NATURE," of a Biological Macro molecule?

I am talking generally about any molecule. What does it mean if the question asks you the NATURE of a molecule (i don't get what it means by the NATURE) ?

That's a pretty vague requirement for a question haha, I hope you don't see anything like it on the exam.

I would interpret it as asking about the composition of the biomacromolecule, i.e. Carbohydrates C, H, O; Nucleic Acids C, H, O, N, P, S etc. Of course, this would only be relevant if the question was something along the lines of "Determine the nature of a carbohydrate."

However, if the question was similar to "Determine the nature of a sucrose molecule" - I would approach constructing an answer as follows:

  • a polysaccharide formed from glucose and fructose monosaccharides
  • hence it's a carbohydrate
  • Hence it's composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

I got a "describe the nature of enzymes" question on my SAC recently and I have to agree that it's a real drainer. It's so hard to know what you have to say. As a guide, use the mark allocation to determine how many pieces of information are required.
