Heh. I'm aiming to get into that course too.

I'm not too sure that SEAS help that much with courses that require a really high ATAR but then again there was someone who got 96.00 and got in (clearly in was 98.80) so maybe he/she applied with SEAS?

Anywho don't stress, and even if you don't get in, the Science course (92 clearly in) is basically the same thing :-)

SEAS does help, but no-one can give you a "probability" or anything like that.

My knowledge on SEAS is somewhat minimal, but I'm guessing different categories give you more ATAR bonuses (for lack of a better term)?

SEAS categories Rural background and Financial Disadvantage are part of the Access Melbourne Scheme. For biomed, if you get an atar of 95 or above (that's what it was this year), you are guaranteed a place in the course (this is only if you are eligible for one or both of these categories). Other SEAS categories (such as medical condition, etc.) won't give you a guaranteed spot, they will just 'review' your application and may let you in a course if you're a bit below the clear in (this all depends on how strong your application is for those other categories)

Basically, unless you can tick any of the Access Melbourne categories, you should aim for the clear-in ATAR to get into the course.

The help for SEAs at UoM biomed is retarded. The course has a maximum number of places and then that is what determines the ATAR cutoff - if they have 350 places, then the people who apply for the course with the top 350 ATARs will get in. They are meant to cap the SEAS intake of those 350 places with a limiter of around 30% so that 70% of the students actually have to get the grades. For entry in 2012, they took 56%.

If you've got SEAs and a low atar, you'll get in.

That's not true at all, the only guaranteed place is for rural and financial disadvantage, which had so many applicants it pushed up the overall numbers

I got offered biomed with 97.3 and rejected it for science and I only had underrepresented school.  I have a friend who got in the 80s and got into biomed with like every single category for seas. Moral of the story - melbourne uni loves seas applicants. Haha
