I don't understand why VCAA has worded this question this way.
As you can see from the first attached image, it's clear that they have stated 'the carriage and coal truck experience a resistance force of 1500 N'. Shouldn't that mean that their total resistance force is 1500 N?
But when you look at the second image, they state that we were supposed to use 1500 N as a resistance force for EACH of the two objects.
Why the hell could VCAA not insert the word 'each' somewhere in the sentence so that it's a lot clearer to us?
It's a really simple question, a definite 2 marks for all physics students. But their wording of this question doesn't make any sense at all. I could see plenty of physics students losing those marks because of VCAA's ridiculous syntax. And better yet, the following question requires this one to be correct in order to receive the full marks. (The next question asks for the train's acceleration when a certain amount of extra force is applied.)
