Proportion of uni students who actually graduate?

What is the proportion of students who go to university in Australia who actually graduate from the course they're undertaking?

I have heard that a large proportion of uni students don't actually graduate or take longer than necessary to graduate and I'm wondering whether there is any truth in this.

Do unis release this sort of information to the public?

Don't take my word for it, but the Yr 12 Psychology teacher at our school has told us that apparently only 1/3 of uni students in a particular course, will graduate at the end of the 3 year degree, meaning 2/3 of students drop out. He's got some research papers and stuff he got which he showed us, not sure where from though, but yeah its quite a guess on my behalf.

That sounds incredibly wrong to me - or at least the second part. While the first statement might be correct (still surprisingly low and from my own experiences, should be far far higher, but it's possible I guess), the conclusion you made that 2/3 of students drop out is almost certainly incorrect. The first statistic is most likely due to the fact that many students defer years of their course, go on exchange years, or fail subjects and repeat them later. But even though they don't finish at the end of the planned three years, I'd think many finish up eventually. Would be interesting to see if you could locate these research papers and link them though.

one does not finish engineering degree in 4-5 years..It's very normal..I mean I've seen some people who studied engineering for 8 years.

In my experience, that says more about the people studying engineering than the degree itself -.-
