From 7:30PM tonight on ABC1, get on it.

If anyone has any comments about it post 'em here.

Edit: good coverage over here also http://www.abc.net.au/news/specials/budget-2013/

Edit: boo, why'd this get moved to news/politics? Thought it was relevant to economics to have a discussion re the budget going on there.

Interesting stuff coming out. Just read that we're going to be in deficit until 2016-17 that's defeneitly quite far of what the government was promising just a couple of years back.

Some commentators say there's going to be a decade of deficits

And the usual obsession with a surplus has again cost us. The fact that the most important figure about a budget is its surplus, and not what is in it, is shocking. Or maybe just a reflection on the general idiocy with which we approach anything more complicated than the footy as a country.

I actually don't really mind that the Baby Bonus has been axed, especially in the manner which it had been done. It's just another layer of useless middle-class welfare, and seeing that Labor has actually cut tax rates for middle class families it really makes sense to start taking off those layers. A large part of it has been transferred to FTB:A payments, which at least has some sort of cut-off point.

Otherwise, no surprises. People will be worshiping what this government has done in a few years' time.

Honestly, Swan's complete mishandling of the surplus situation means I have no sympathy for the political flak he's getting.

This is why I hate Julia Gillard! She has fucked Australia over and we are now heading well into the depths of the global financial crisis, just like America did in 2008. As much as I hate that lying bastard Tony Abbott, at least he is capable of getting Australia out of debt. But I'm not voting for him either because he is a crazy religious nut who wants to bring Australia back to the stone age. He wouldn't even allow his MP's a conscious vote on gay marriage and he has lied so many times and broken so many promises that I don't feel I can trust him.

I'm voting for Green's: the lesser of three evils.
2012 ATAR - 86.75
2013 ATAR - 88.50
2014: BSci (Statistics) at RMIT
2015 - 2017: BCom at UoM

Quite happy with what I've been reading/watching. Seems to be a long term plan considering the NDIS and extra education funding, there are defeneitly schools which could do with some extra funding.

Savings on giving useless welfare payments etc. are a big plus. I never understood the baby bonus. I've heard stories of new parents spending the bonus on flat screens TV etc. which most certainly wa not the governments intention with this payment.

You are aware the Greens' economic policy is at least as... no, you know what, never mind. I'll let you do your own reading.

Holy shit I agree with you, but I thought you were right wing... or are you a bloody small-l liberal after all? :p

Am so happy about the baby bonus being axed. If you actually needed that money you shouldn't be having a baby

@OP why the hell did you report your own thread?

Did you read the comment that came with the report? I'm querying why it was moved from the economics forum to here. In other forums I've used you ask those types of questions to moderators using the report button.
