Hi
I have an upcoming SAC and I am wondering on how to structure the essay. I am very aware that there is no set structure for the essay but how would one typically write one?
ATARnotes' Lit study guide hasn't arrived yet and I don't think it'll come in time for my SAC so I need your help.
Thanks for any responses.
Hey jeanweasley,
My essay is here if it helps:
Re: Literature Essay Compilation Thread Basically what you need to know about this SAC is that it's basically teaching you to critically evaluate how texts are interpreted and translated across mediums. There are several interpretations you need to take into account here: The director's, the writer's, and the actors' and, of course, your own.
The structure suggested by the person above is pretty much what I did. I split my paragraphs focusing on key points in the scene I analysed, pointing out the differences and similarities between the original text and its adaptation. Show your understanding of how the director has interpreted the original text into the film and everything that comes with that eg: camera angles, arrangement of the scene, any aspects that have been altered or omitted. This is where metalanguage comes in handy, as well as knowledge of film techniques eg: music, diegetic and non diegetic sound, scene set up ( mise en scene) types of shots ( panning, close up, wide, medium) the way the actor's lines are said. ( by the way, if this is a play-to-film adaptation which you are comparing, look at the stage directions to check if they line up with how the actors are playing their role.) Has the director emphasised or exaggerated aspects of the film? Are other parts more subtle or non existent? Is there a definite message being put across here, as opposed to the relative ambiguity of the text? ( or vice versa?)
Good luck, feel free to ask more questions!
