Split from Re: Methods [3/4] Question Thread!

Am I loner in this one? I find mathematics more fascinating every time I read random answers in this thread, especially the really long processed ones.. Am I normal?

You're on AN, so yes (to the latter).

Also let's keep this on topic before we ride a tangent away.

I sometimes still hit up Stewarts for some random maths :D

Nothing like a bit of maths here and there for fun :)

You're not alone, OP! I find maths fascinating (I'm just not particularly good at it).

Cant wait to take my first maths unit next semester, going to be interesting ;D

I'm fascinated at my inability to perform simple mathematical calculations... Does that count?

I agree. The main motivation for maths is my fascination. Like, when you see a trigonometry question you REALLY wanna get the answer. Even if I need to go home and spend 20 minutes I just really want to work it out.

Lol 20 minutes, wait till you get to uni where you could be trying to do the same (assignment) question for hours (or even days) :P I probably should point out, maths in uni becomes different to VCE, it's not all so much of remembering a particular method and just doing the question like VCE is, and if you do any pure math then it will be a whole new world ....which I don't particularly like, sorry TrueTears, Kamil. (Although keep in mind I'm only in my second year of uni, unlike so of the guys on here).

The path taken to get to the answer is more valuable than the answer itself.

Or wait til you get to a PhD, where you can spend months on a single problem and not get anywhere... :(

(note that this guy is a serious mathematical genius!)

edit: wrote "not" instead of "note" and "they" instead of "they" -_-

That's a quite normal look.

Quote
... but he lives in his mothers basement.

Being a mathematician, he probably knows how to calculate rent and bills (though perhaps only after seeing a precise definition and establishing some basic results).
Voltaire: "There is an astonishing imagination even in the science of mathematics ... We repeat, there is far more imagination in the head of Archimedes than in that of Homer."
