Hey guys, what could I do now that would prepare me (and perhaps give me an advantage) for EL since I am in year 10?

I have not decided whether to do English or English Language, yet subject choices for year 11 is around the corner (early next term 3).

Thanks

Hi! I'm in Year 11 and I'm doing English Language! I really like it and personally think it is a great subject and much more interesting than English.
Everyone says it's a great subject for those who like maths and sciences as there is a lot of analysis.

Have a look at the study design:
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/vce/englishlanguage/englang-sd-2012.pdf

It would be great if you start looking at grammar in detail like type of clauses, sentence types and structures, etc. from some english language textbooks from your school library or other grammar books and online. Grammar is the first thing I learned in English Language and is important for Year 12.

We also looked at language acquisition- how we learn language.

So pretty much just look over textbooks. Hope this helps and good luck with your subject selection! :)

I really like englang so far.

I think you don't really need to prepare for english language, but aside from reading through textbooks, you can also do some reading on english language, and watch some documentaries on the english language (Like, the history of english language, language acquisition etc like ones by the bbc), for fun. They're really interesting. And if your school has been running english language for a while they should have some relevant non-fiction books available :)
