well im doing methods 1/2 in 08' and in year 10 i've been receiving A's and A+ nothing under for exam and tests. My maths is v.good and i pick concepts up quite easily.
However i was just wondering how well do you really need to know your maths for methods to gain around 35+.
i mean do you have to be a genius or something?

Not well at all! All you have to do is be familiar with the formulas and know how to sub in the relevant values and that can get you towards 37-38. You don't need to understand it, nor have any great feel for the theory. It's only if you want 40+ that you need to have a real understanding of the material. Just do the work, learn the formulae, learn which numbers go where and you should be fine.

At 40 Legal stays the same according to the Scaling Report. It may differ by .1 or .2 in either direction. Actually I'd be interested to know.

I understood everything and got a 33. I think that in order to get 35+ you have to have good problem solving abilities and you have to be very quick at working out what the question is asking of you. You also can't afford to make too many careless errors. These things either come naturally, or they are something you have to develop throughout the whole year.

That said, if you're a mathy sort, you'll probably find it reasonably easy :D

mozart, from ur description, u'll do perfectly fine, with ur kinda dedication atm, ur definitely not looking at 87 if you live up to your promises, i say 95+
if u have this "need" to understand mathematics, that just proves your ability to do maths
from this year's 3/4 exam, however, to get an awesome score not only do you need to understand the material, you also need to be able to recognise the problem you're presented with and be able to apply things you have learnt to solve it. If you can use your "understanding" to solve problems without specific instructions, then you're looking at WELL above your predicted 35...
but on the higher end, also note that every little mistake is your enemy, so practice at it

dont overstress, you're in year 11, there's no point getting yourself worked up right now, enjoy your holidays, coz you dont have many left...
ENJOY ;D you'll do fine

which 1s set notation, worded problems?
set notation as in [0,5) or {0,1,2,3,4} or f: [0,5) -> R... and those kinda stuff... dont worry about it, you'll learn it easy enough, just remember what each bracket mean, and if you REALLY need to, draw the number line.... ;D

I was like you in year 10, but then in year 11 my maths dipped a lot.. I passed methods but didn't do as well as I would've liked, I bludged a lot and didn't do so well so I decided to do further this year. But yeah be consistent throughout the year and you should be fine.

As Redwan mentioned, consistency is key. Keep on top of your course work, prepare summary notes at the end of each topic/area of study. By preparing these notes after each topic, you don't need to prepare a bound book at the end of the semester (i.e., last minute), allowing you to instead spend that time on revision questions/past exams/past papers.

Yerr i think the key thing here is consistancy. Well overall i mean from years 7-10 i've never literally been with the class at maths coursework, i just usually do my own chaPters after comPleting the ones Prescribed by the teacher already. Maybe its just me but i like getting ahead if it doesn't sound too cocky.

Yer i get what you mean by the fact that making little mistakes can hurt you and that's why im going to try and learn the maths quite thouroghly so i know what is going on, before rushing into making silly/easy mistakes.

Thanks for you helP PPl.
