One-off occurrences cannot be used to prove a broader trend.

Furthermore, an increased likelihood of extreme weather events is one of the effects of global warming.

Global warming does not necessarily imply a specific increase or decrease in local temperatures. As Polonium stated, it's an increased likelihood of extremities in the weather on a more regular basis.

Also, cold weather in Melbourne ≠ 'global cooling" LOL
