Is wider reading recommended in year 12?Will my results in English improve if reading becomes a consistent habit.

No absolute guarantee, of course, but... based on many studies, yes. Mind you, the focus is on *long term* reading habits, and *active* reading (in other words, actively processing and analysing the meaning of the text and trying to understand and use for yourself sophisticated structures and vocabulary).

At the very least, though, it's interesting, relaxing, and it can't hurt ;)

Any type of reading whether it be a newspaper, fiction or non fiction, will improve your comprehension of text as well as your vocabulary and spelling. But actual school reading comes first I guess, and I always seem too busy catching up on that to actually read a selected text :/

Haha that's okay Lolly.

I would highly recommend: Oscar Wilde's 'The Importance of being earnest: A trivial comedy for serious people', 'A Catcher in the Rye', Raymond Carver's poetry collections, Shakespeaer's 'The Merchant of Venice', 'Looking for Alibrandi' and of course who could forget 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. Those are some excellent books to read and I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for a read outside the scope of the VCE English course. And if you really want to have some fun, read some fan-fiction, that stuff is excellent!
