Has anyone done this subject? How essential is it that you attend lectures as opposed to watching the recorded ones? I heard that worked examples are written on a blackboard, which is not recorded.

From announcement on LMS:

"Although lectures will be recorded (with sound and computer-projected images available), there is no capture of what the lecturer writes on the board.  You are warned not to skip lectures, and simultaneous enrolment in subjects that clash with even one Accelerated Matheamatics 2 lecture per week is strongly advised against. Because lectures are recorded, you must be aware that anything that you say just before, during, or just after a lecture may be recorded."

Though they may just be scaring us :P in AM 1 the lecturer didn't use the whiteboard but there's a new lecturer for this subject.

Yea saw that. I'm not sure if it is just a scare tactic, last year he wrote all the worked examples on a blackboard.

have you gotten the "textbook" from co-op yet? you can prolly learn the entire thing straight from that... i wouldnt want to though. its like, all just giant slabs of text D:

all of last years am2 lectures are still on the lms pretty much nothing gets recorded video wise. its just an intro slide that stays up for the entire lecture. but everything he talks about is from the book

Is it essential that we buy the book?

The book is only $25-30, so not stupidly expensive.

Yeah I'm gonna go to these lectures, I think in the first lecture recorded last year he said we'd get 'destroyed' if we didn't keep super-up-to-date.

Looking forward to this though, I've been missing calculus :P

You'll want to go at start, maybe up to where you start doing the calculus stuff.

Definitely attend lectures. Every example is worked out on the blackboard or whiteboard and it's not recorded, only the lecture slides are recorded but they don't have any of the solutions or worked examples on them.

Does anyone know if this is the case with Real Analysis? Does the lecturer also write things on the board?

yeah. theres no notes so if you don't have the book, youre not going to have anything to learn from.

Yeah I'm gonna go to these lectures, I think in the first lecture recorded last year he said we'd get 'destroyed' if we didn't keep super-up-to-date.
hahaha ohh man. yeah he was like, if you go three days without doing work for am, the subject will destroy you. 8'D isn't that encouraging to hear. ;n; i can already sense my impending doom. XD have you actually listened to many of the lectures? XD at the start of the holidays i was all like "OH BOY, IM GONNA BE A SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME STAR STUDENT AND LEARN AAALLLLLLL OF MATH SO I CAN BE CHILL AND SHIZZ DURING THE SEMESTER". i ended up watching one. .____. and it was the first one so there was pretty much no math in it. XD;;;;;;;;

haha omg I was gonna do the same thing, but I ended up playing games and sleeping all holidays. I read through the lecture notes though for the first 4-5 lectures, plus the blue pages. I'm actually looking forward to AM2, it sounds more like my kind of maths than AM1. I just don't like matrices :/ also calculus is my favourite maths topic ^_^

btw were you by any chance in the Monday 10AM tute for AM1 last semester? I remember you mentioning you were in a Monday morning maths tute somewhere. I was the asian guy in the back who never did any work haha

Nah not the same for Real Analysis. She'll have one of those projector thingos so everything she writes down will be up on the screen and should be recorded
