Poll

How did the UMAT 2013 go in general? (modesty aside)

Pretty good, I'm pleased with my performance
Alright I guess
Not really sure, could have gone either way
Not too well, not happy with how I went
To be frank, a complete disaster
I didn't sit the UMAT 2013 today but like to respond to polls anyway

It's hard to believe it, until you put in the hard yards and to get a poor final result.

Yes, that's the worst type of disappointment (and lots of people felt it last year at my school - including me, I got 63rd percentile which was incredibly shattering tbh).

While it seems that most of your options for undergrad are gone, try to think of it in a more positive light. It might actually be a blessing in disguise.

One, you have more options available to you - you might do a Science degree and find out you're incredibly fascinated by a passion you never knew you had. You at least have more time to tap into your other interests. You might even drop the thought of medicine entirely. Medicine is a pretty narrow degree - being a doctor is the only option you have. But there are other degrees which are a lot more flexible and really open up a whole lot of other careers to you.

Two, you have more time to mature as a person. You might have more time to think whether medicine is really the right degree for you - you might spend more time volunteering, working and developing more people skills.

All in all, while it is upsetting to receive a bad result in the UMAT, take it as a opportunity to broaden your scope - interest-wise and maturity-wise.

Yeah, I know that I really want it though, I did scientific research opportunities for work experience, and whilst it was interesting, I realised just how strongly I wanted to do medicine. 63rd is brutal  :'(

Okay  quote from a curry movie~
Whatever happens , happens for the better! :)

I got an alright umat ,  I'm not putting medicine as a vtac preference. You guys might be thinking , why waste an opportunity? But that's because it isn't a passion. I can't see myself doing the course
And UMAT is just a stupid test. I still don't understand why you have to do Section 3 to get into med :P And I still don't know why people like me, get alrite umat scores. I don't think it's fair.

BUT GUYS...getting into med or any course isn't everything. There are some things that are even more important ; your friends, your family and they are  the one's that are going to be wit you through everything. So keep things in perspective.

and ..GO CLASS OF 2013 ....you guys are an amazing bunch of peeps ( from what ive seen on the chem 3/4 board..lol) and don't let the UMAT let everything down , because it's only one milestone of many! :) :)

Keep up the optimism guys :)

Also looking at some of the scores floating around, hope to see many of you become Monash meddies next year :)

I still don't understand why you have to do Section 3 to get into med :P

I used to think that, but after doing some basic pathology and haematology having good pattern recognition skills really does help :) And I'm finding that pattern recognition really helps in making diagnoses too (not that I can diagnose many conditions!).

Maybe, I should be looking at Motivational Speaker as a career path instead :P
