Got year 11 next year and need one last subject to cap off my 6. Just wondering if HHD is easy to do with no 1/2? Thanks :) if not, what 3/4 do you advise I do?

Health is fine without 1/2. It's mostly the first topic you'll have a slight disadvantage on, thats all! Psych is (apparently) quite easy to pick up as well.

It's Australia's health status. You'll just have a disadvantage to the others who would know the acronyms (LE, HALE, DALYs) and their definitions. Nothing too major :)

I'm doing HHD 3/4 this year without having done Units 1/2 and am having no problem with it. My teacher says 3/4 is quite a different approach to a lot of the topics than 1/2 but I can't say for sure. I was out of school for a while and HHD was by far the easiest subject for me to pick up so I'm sure you'd be fine, especially if you found the subject interesting.

Since my school doesnt offer HHD 1/2 , a lot of girls still pick up the subject. It's a relatively easy subject to pick up, but you have to be extra careful on not losing marks ,and specificity is needed in each answer. But overall, you don't  really require 1/2 to do well in it. My bestie got a 50 without doing 1/2 last year!

I didn't do Health 1/2. I don't feel like I missed out on anything at all (apart from a few initialisms as mentioned earlier). I think you'll be absolutely fine if you choose to pick up Health 3/4.

Best of luck either way!

HHD is probably one of the most ideal subjects for jumping straight into 3/4.

I did 1/2, and obviously, anything from 1/2 that you need in 3/4 is covered again extensively. There isn't any assumed knowledge, or rushing through something because 'you should know it from last year'.

Basically, the advantages of doing 1/2 are that first of all, you get a feel for the subject and how to answer questions and analyse graphs, which is a pretty general skill. Also, the tone or focus of the subject kind of changes from 1/2 to 3/4 so even that advantage is limited.

The other advantage is that you already have an idea of some of the things that are covered in both years, and doing them in 3/4 serves as a kind of revision. But again, they're covered both years, so meh. Things like:

- Definitions right at the start of unit 3 for health, the dimensions of health, health status, measures of health status (life expectancy, mortality, morbidity, burden of disease, etc.)
- Nutrition (Just the nutrients, what they do, which foods we can find them in)
- Medicare and Private Health Insurance

To sum up, yeah go for it.

Guys I only doubled with Arts because I couldn't let go of Psych and wanted to keep doing it as a major at least, but I took International Studies on a whim after the info session just because I needed a minor, and I love it so much! It's 3:29am and I had to share this, I think I'm majoring in it bye.

Heard good things about Business Management and Psychology - ask around, but pretty much any subject that actually says on the VCAA website that you can do 3/4 without 1/2 :)

I did BusMan and Psych 1/2 and I found both of them to be irrelevant to 3/4 (particularly Business).
