Do we have to use i+j notation for dynamics stuff?

Hey peeps for Chpt 13 - Dynamics(inclined planes),
a lot of worked solutions use i+j notations to resolve force vectors, and i just find that they are over complicating things. Is it alright to just use the good old physics way of using logic and formulas to solve the question? I find that it gets me to the same answer faster and with less brain power :P  i don't see why we have to resort to i+ j notation unless it is required for working out or something, or for a later chapter...

Thank you! +1

I agree. I wouldn't bother using i-j notation in VCE dynamics questions because...they're not complex enough to warrant that notation :P
If you define what the i and j unit vectors are in your diagram with an arrow and then say "in the i direction" or "in the j direction", I'm sure that's fine. I've seen the textbook do that at times.
