Changes with new study design

I was just looking on the VCAA website, apparently this year, there was a new study design.

What were the changes to this year's study design compared to last year's?

Biggest difference is the cutting of an entire area of study.

Hear me out here. We don't have mid-years, so the former "mid year study break" now becomes class time. Therefore, in total, we have more time to learn the content. However, the amount of content in the course has been cut. Where's the logic in that?
2012
Mathematical Methods (50) Chinese SL (45~52)

2013
English Language (50) Chemistry (50) Specialist Mathematics (49~54.9) Physics (49) UMEP Physics (96%) ATAR 99.95

2014-2016: University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Science, Diploma in Mathematical Sciences (Applied Maths)

2017-2018: Master of Science (Applied Mathematics)

2019-2024: PhD, MIT (Applied Mathematics)

main difference is one exam not two covering unit 3 and 4 and only one detailed study

I've also heard transistors and capacitors are no longer part of the Electronic and Photonics unit, are there any of these subtle changes to the study design?

Nliu,
the reason why stuff has been cut out is because the one exam simply wouldn't be able to cover every single thing in the original course design.

Methods has two exams totalling three hours. English is three hours. VCAA already have solutions.

Transistors haven't been apart of Electronics/Photonics since 2009, that's not a recent change that they've made. Content-wise I believe that all the area of the studies have mostly remained the same, with some more precise wording used and that you only do one detailed study on the exam.

For all the other changes, see page 14 onwards here http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/bulletin/2012/2012julsup.pdf That document also lists the changes made for other subjects. You can find the document via the subject index page on the VCAA website.
