Skipping Year 11

Hey guys,
I'm currently doing 1/2 Literature, am really enjoying it.
Next year, I have a space open for a subject, and I was thinking of taking up EngLang 3/4 (I haven't done the 1/2), and if I take it I'll be doing it simultaneously with Lit 3/4. I have read the guides on this forum and I think I'll be interested in doing it, just don't know whether it would be wise to do it alongside Lit 3/4.

I was wondering if ATARNotes could enlighten me on my predicament. :P
VCE SUBJECTS

2013 : Legal Studies [50]
2014 : Maths Methods [42], Literature[43]
2015 : Specialist Maths [37] , English [46], French [47]
ATAR: 99.80

2016: Philosophy, Politics and Economics @ Oxford University

If you need tips on applying to the UK (esp Oxford) message me, I'm more than happy to help out :)

I did English Language 3/4 without 1/2! PM me for more info if you want.

I also didn't do lit, but I did do two englishes if you want advice on that note

Here's the thing with English Language-- I feel as if I wouldn't be absolutely confident in 3/4 if I didn't do 1/2 but at the same time, half of the 1/2 course is useless for 3/4 (I'm looking at you, language acquisition and history of English). You would be a bit behind picking up English Language without knowing the essentials about linguistics taught in 1/2 such as the subsystems and some metalanguage but if you truly love language and learning about its mechanisms then it shouldn't be a chore.

Literature is by far my most time consuming subject even though I am only doing 4 3/4s this year. If you believe that you can handle such a heavy workload and have the passion to do well in all your subjects, it wouldn't be too bad to do both. On a scale of 0-5 with 5 being the most time consuming, I would rate English language as a 1 or 2 and literature a 4 or 5.

Doing two Englishes is truly fun so pursue it if you believe that you won't regret it.

I too did English Language without the 1/2 (as I did 3/4 in Year 11). I did rather well without learning about the subsystems and metalanguage before. If you're willing to learn quickly over the summer holidays/first few weeks of Term One.  Good luck, it's a really great subject when you engage with it!
