Does anyone have any notes or knowledge on navigation and specification of locations? It's found in 9D of the maths quest 12 further mathematics book, and I can't for the life of me figure it out. If anybody could help me out with maybe a picture of the solved work or notes, it would be greatly appreciated!
I assume you have worked through Exs 9C to get to 9D. That suggests you understand bearings that originate from a point. Is this correct?
Can you target what it is about 9D that you are stuck on by detailing the particular part/s that you cannot figure out? For example, is it finding how far north (for example) a ship travels even though it is actually travelling at some angle to north? Are you confused when moving, on one bearing, from one point to a second point and then on another bearing from this second point to a third point?
Incidentally, three figure true bearings are used in Further Maths. But you must still know N, S, E, W and NE, NW, SE and SW as special labels for 0, 180, 090, 270, 045, 315, 135 and 225 degrees respectively.
Another way of expressing compass bearings, such as S37W or N60E, are not in the FM course. Don't let MQ questions that involve this type of compass bearing confuse you - leave them alone if they cause a problem and stick to doing only those with true bearings.
