Going to fail VCE for not attending an excursion.

Today I received notice that I will be failing my VCE for not attending a class excursion to a play. I did not attend due to personal issues, I told the teacher that was in charge of it and she said it was 'okay' and that I am not required to go, even my parents knows about this, yet the school demands a certificate from me which I do not have.

Long story short, going to fail VCE due to missing one excursion. Am I able to do anything about this?

I highly doubt that this can actually go ahead. Talk to that teacher who knew you weren't going on the excursion and show her the note.

Write a stat dec about why you didn't attend and that you had permission not to and give it to your school, it'll shut them up.

I actually had my dad speak to the person who was in charge of student absences through the phone, he attempted to give her a verbal confirmation to why I did not attend but it seems like they are refusing to accept any reasons unless I have a medical certificate (which apparently means everything to the world to them). So I'm probably guessing writing a stat dec would have the same consequence.

It's impossible to get a medical certificate back dated (it's illegal), so my advice would be to put something in writing (email) saying you can't provide one and you'll be submitting a stat dec in lieu of this. If you give them a stat dec, it's also a legal document and they can't just magically refuse to accept it because they want a medical certificate instead (if they do, go complain to VCAA)

IANAL and YMMV but my 0.02

I am not a lawyer and your mileage may vary, but my two cents above (I wrote this out because too many acronyms are bad)

I fail to see your school's logic. It's not like you actually failed a subject or anything...

I'm sure the education department would love to hear about this. Your school will never hassle you again.

Thanks for the advice, I'll do that tomorrow and post my results afterwards.

I've been attending this school ever since year 7 and I don't even understand them myself.

I'm only going to go to the department of education as my last resort, I once used this threat before and it worked well. (I was once mistaken for a delinquent due to one of my teachers having poor eyesight ...and being the same race as him [the delinquent], and because of that I nearly got suspended for a couple of weeks, had to get them off my back.)
