Are the prereqs for graduate Dentistry and Medicine at Melbourne Uni the same? So if you do the prereqs for Medicine, will you also be able to apply for Dentistry?

Also, if you're doing the prereqs for Medicine, will there be any space left over for other subjects? Say, if you want to also do the prereqs for engineering? I'm considering doing chemical engineering but if I could do the prereqs for Medicine while I'm at it, that would be awesome.

As far as I know there are only 3 subjects that are pre-requisites for med/dent and they are all 2nd year subjects
2013: BSc at UoM

You also need first-year chemistry and biology for the second-year subjects.
2012
Mathematical Methods (50) Chinese SL (45~52)

2013
English Language (50) Chemistry (50) Specialist Mathematics (49~54.9) Physics (49) UMEP Physics (96%) ATAR 99.95

2014-2016: University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Science, Diploma in Mathematical Sciences (Applied Maths)

2017-2018: Master of Science (Applied Mathematics)

2019-2024: PhD, MIT (Applied Mathematics)

Accepting students for VCE tutoring in Maths Methods, Specialist Maths and Physics! (and university maths/physics too) PM for more details

Yes

Yes

Also, if you're doing the prereqs for Medicine, will there be any space left over for other subjects?
This depends - see below.

Say, if you want to also do the prereqs for engineering?

This depends a little bit on what subjects you do/don't have to do in first year, but it sounds like you'll probably be fine because you're preparing early.

There are, as you know, three second year level prerequisites for Medicine.
These come with you also needing to have taken up to Chemistry 2 (so, if you took Chem in high school: Chem 1 & Chem 2) and also both first year Biology subjects (no credit for high school Biol).  I think one might even require a maths subject (Calculus 1 or 2).

Engineering requires Engineering Systems Design 2 at least at the first year level, as well as Calculus 1 (if you didn't take Spesh), Calculus 2, and  Linear Algebra at first year level.  Chemical Engineering Major requires Engineering Mathematics, Chemical Process Analysis 1 & 2, Transport Processes,  and Reactions and Synthesis at second year level.

So already you have 8 x Level 2 subjects and 5 x Level 1 subjects to fit into your study plan, and that DOESN'T include breadth.  But if you are taking Specialist Maths 3/4 and Chemistry 3/4, it's probably will be able to fit it all in.

I had to go speak to someone at the Science Student Centre and in the end I couldn't fit it all in my study plan - I was two subjects short - but that's because because I didn't take Chemistry or Specialist Maths in high school, I had to take Fundamentals of Chemistry and Calculus 1, which bulked up my study plan too much.

I'm pretty sure it's been worked out that if you want to complete ChemEng plus Med pre-reqs, you need to do one breadth subject via CAP (meaning you pay full-fee for the subject alone) as it's outside your degree. I'm not going to work it out all again, it should be pretty standard to look up what you need to complete both from the UniMelb handbook.

Will it work if I take Chemistry 2 in the Summer term? It says on the handbook that there's a summer term for it. I'm guessing this is commonwealth supported unlike the CAP?

There literally is a limit to the amount of subjects you are allowed to take as part of your course.  You can't take extra subjects in Summer if they mean you exceed the amount of subjects in your study plan.  The Handbook for B-Sci outlines the study plan limitations and requirements explicitly.
So you can't  take Chemistry 2 in Summer if it means you end up taking 25 subjects overall towards your degree.  The system just won't allow it.  [There are more complicated limits on the amount of Level 1,2,and 3 subjects you must take and cannot exceed as well].
So by all means take Chemistry 2 during Summer but all you'll be doing is giving yourself a lighter load in another semester.  It doesn't 'make more space'.

^ yep, there's effectively no way to get around taking an additional full-fee subject as CAP if you have to take > 24 subjects.
Also, I don't think Chemistry 2 intensive would be anything short of soul-destroying  :'(

I don't think so, I'd advise taking the year 1 prereqs for both of them first, and see whether you edge towards biology or chem+engi

Apparently, you can take 4 breadth and 2 science electives instead of 6 breadths? Wouldn't you be able to do the prereqs as science electives? That way all the subjects could fit?

Cos I know you need 12 subjects for the engineering major and 7 med prereqs, meaning you still take 5 breadths.

Yes, you can swap out 2 breadths for 2 sciences. Also, depending on what scores you got for chemistry in 2ndary school, you may be able to use it to waive Chemistry 1 and start on Chem 2 right away if it's not too late.

Dude this isn't difficult research. If you want to do med you have to learn to look for this kind of simple stuff yourself.

If you're talking about UoM postgrad specifically the prerequisites for med, dentistry and physio are the same. Physio you only need 2. So you can take the 3 MD/Dent prereqs plus whatever major subjects you take.
Did you mean you want to major in Physiology in your BSCI? It's usually possible with some careful planning but we can't answer you specifically because we don't know what subjects you get credit for, if any, eg did you take chem in high school or do you have to start from Fundamentals.

Seriously, use the unimelb handbook to find out what subjects you need to take over the three years ensuring you meet all prerequisites as you more forward. Do a bit of legwork. Or you can give us some more details and we can help you formulate a study plan.

There is a physiology major, actually.
Medicine and dentistry share the same three prerequisite second-year subjects.
You should be fine to complete the prerequisites and a physiology major (and actually one of the prereqs is also a second-year PHYS subject).
I'll let you do the rest of the research, you have two years (more, even) to get it done, and independence is important :v
