How does the purpose of civil pre trail procedures differ from the purpose of criminal pre-trail procedures?

The aim of civil pre-trial procedures is to encourage out-of-court settlement, to save time and money for the parties involved. Whereas, on the other hand, criminal pre-trial procedures are put in place to establish all the evidence and facts before the actual trial commences.
