Where to buy SPSS?

So, it's been strongly recommended that I get myself a copy of the SPSS statistical analysis software. Does monash sell this, or offer a free copy to students?

If not, anyone know where I can purchase a copy for cheap?

Who is recommending you buy it, because you almost certainly don't need it

Recommended for use in a few biomed units (those centred around biostats, epidemiology and bioinformatics), but mainly for use in the Summer/Winter research scholarships I'm going after.

But they're more so for 2nd year and above, aren't they?

I asked around the departments I was interested in and was told to apply anyway Apparently they've accepted first-years before, especially those who've got an interest in going into research careers (like yours truly)

Monash doesn't offer it free to students but apparently it's available to certain staff members. See this page: http://intranet.monash.edu.au/esolutions/software/catalogue/index.html

Note that all students can get certain software free like Office and Mathematica for home use.

Hmm I can get SPSS (since I'm staff), don't think students have access to it.

If you're looking for statistical software, I suggest using SAS instead of SPSS, I feel the former is much more powerful. Another good alternative is Stata, some people tend to organise their data in SAS (since it has the best data cleaning tools out there) and then run their analysis in Stata.

If you're less intent on programming and just want to use a newb-friendly statistical software, I suggest using Eviews otherwise SAS is the way to go.

I believe the physiology computers have SPSS (since we needed it for an assignment). See if you cant get in there and try and use it (if need be).

If you do need it for the summer research, i'm sure they'll supply you with access to it.
