I was wondering if a comparison paragraph is required in section c analysis of language part of the exam.

What's a 'comparison paragraph'?

As far as I know, section C is for demonstrating the effects of persuasive language on readers.
But, I think I might sort of be able to answer what you're asking:
Sometimes I do this thing in LA where I say why, and how, the writer attained credibility. But then, I write how this credibility is occasionally and unintentionally undermined, due to the repetition of an idea that becomes excessive & hyperbolic, or how a statement made by the writer is actually ironic/hypocritical. Astute readers are then positioned to disregard the validity and credentials of the writer, who is their eyes, is no longer learned, intelligent, refined. This has an opposing and undesired effect.

If you mean 'comparison paragraphs' as in comparison of two articles or two images within the same article then yeah, it is compulsory.

Just analysis is acceptable in year 11, whereas in year 12 they want you to show more depth in your analysis, hence the comparison. :)

Hey, I'm also unsure of the meaning of the question but I'd generally like to disagree with the person above me (sorry, Kiana!)

In general, I don't think anything is compulsory in such essays other than hitting the criteria. A perceptive analysis of the way written and visual language can be used to persuade. That's what you need to show. Can you show that without comparing? Then it's not compulsory. Can you show that without 3 body paragraphs? Then 3 bodies are not compulsory. Can you show that without analysing the huge appeal to the hip-pocket nerve that runs through the piece? Then it isn't compulsory. Can you show that without analysing the image? Well, you can't really, because you need to analyse visual language , so the image is kinda compulsory.

If it makes you feel any better, by exam had two images and I wrote about both of them but they definitely weren't compared. So if there are comments or whatever else, they don't necessarily have to be compared - just analysed.

However, if you're talking about "should we compare the way language works together and against each other to persuade a target audience?" then I think that's very helpful. Discussion of how language interrelates is always a great way to demonstrate your perceptive analysis .
