Sustainable Human Development vs. Sustainability?

Doing the practice papers, I've noticed that when some companies ask how something promotes sustainable human development, they want you to talk about the bits of the definition of human development and then incorporate sustainability by saying something like it breaks the cycle of poverty or it improves and develops the economy, etc.

...While others want you to talk about the bits of the definition of human development and then the ELEMENTS of sustainability (appropriateness, affordability and equity). Which of these is right, and if you could walk through how you would answer a question like that, it'd be awesome.

Also, what about discussing the relationships between health and sustainable human development vs. health, human development and sustainability?

Guys I only doubled with Arts because I couldn't let go of Psych and wanted to keep doing it as a major at least, but I took International Studies on a whim after the info session just because I needed a minor, and I love it so much! It's 3:29am and I had to share this, I think I'm majoring in it bye.

When asked about sustainable human development , which is usually 6 marks or so , I think you need to address sustainability , human development and health + global health!

This is how I would do this type of question !

How food security amongst children could impact on a country's ability to achieve sustainable human development.( 6 marks)

With promoting food security , children are less likely to be suffering from malnutrition(physical health) , because of the availability of nutritious food and thus increasing morbidity(global health) due to lack of food security(. This means children are more likely to go to school and enhance capabilities and expand choices ( human development) , rather than being bed-ridden due to malnourishment . This means that they are more likely to pass their knowledge to the current generation , without compromising the needs of the future generations , enabling social sustainability. Furthermore, when food security is promoted, children don't have to travel long distances to find food , but rather go to school and interact with other children ( social health) , and thus be in the life of the community (human development) . Therefore , they will be able to share their ideas and feelings and thus enable social sustainability , for the current generation ,without compromising the needs of the future generation*

But I think the general trend has been that VCAA will separately ask a question on elements of sustainability.

Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure sustainable human development is just sustainability, human development and health.
For example; taking the WHO core functions from the study design:
- the core functions of the WHO in providing global health and sustainable human development;
See how global health and sustainable human development are separated? I think if global health was included within sustainable human development, they wouldn't bother to say global health AND sustainable human development.
Also, the marking criteria for sustainable human development is usually 2 marks for health, 2 marks for human development and 2 marks for global health.

With regards to the elements of sustainability, I'm sure vcaa would have a case study of some sort, and you would have to analyse it using 2 or 3 elements.

When discussing sustainability, we usually are given a case study and assess how sustainable it is (a program, particularly) .. over all it refers to meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising that of the past.

Sustainable human development is referring to the three sections of it - health, human development and sustainability.. as long as you have an understanding of those three terms you're basically making up SHD.
