Question about evaluating matrix products HELP

Hi everyone,

Just wondering for exam 2, when it asks us to evaluate a matrix product(eg. Find matrix g whwn g=kf where k and f are specific matrices), do we have to show the working out by writing out each matrix in full and showing the multiplication?

Or can we just do it in our calculators, get the answer and just write that down? Would we lose any marks if we got the answer right without this working?

Thanks. And good luck to everyone on monday. :)

Depends on how many marks the question is worth.

If its 1 mark, then the just putting the Answer is fine. But if its 2 or more marks, then a decent amount of working out is required.

Sorry, by "decent", would that also be including to write/draw down those damn boxes? Heh.
I actually have no idea what I'm saying or talking about.

Yeah :) So don't actually work it out manually, just show (draw up matrix A) x (draw up matrix B) = (draw up matrix C).

I tend to do that even for one mark questions, if there is space available. If there isn't, then examiners are not expecting you to draw up (or write up - whatever you want to call it) the matrix calculation expression.

If you have time and space just do a bit of working out.
