Just a quick question,
Does anyone have some good examples of prominent pamphlets during 1788-89. 'What is the Third Estate?' (January 1789) is obviously a well known one but are there any others that are worth remembering? (Just asking this as on the 2010 exam it specifically asked about publications and was unable to get the depth required in my answer)
Cheers

It doesn't have to be just pamphlets, you could refer to the political pornography that was circulating at the time. Marie Antoinette was frequently ridiculed through these, they referred to her as the 'Austrian bitch' and painted her out to be a promiscuous tramp. Guess you can see how that would have exacerbated the revolutionary situation? Royal authority was undermined and respect for the monarchy was diminished.

Great point, completely forgot about that. In a way it is very similar to the pornographic postcards used to represent Rasputin and the Tsarina.
Thanks and good luck  :)

You could probably also refer to the Encyclopedie and the Enlightenment stuff, because usually questions will say up until ~ and then a date.

Yeah , for some reason Rousseau's Social Contract (1762) and popular sovereignty relates to nearly everything in AOS 1 :D It's nice to chuck in a few Enlightenment philosophes' treatises and link them to the event you're mentioning.

Could someone please give me a rundown/comparison of the CGS and the CPS?

Could someone please give me a rundown/comparison of the CGS and the CPS?

CGS:
Committee of General Security  (October 1792). Originally established in response to the September Massacre, but the idea is that they're meant to defend the nation and bring traitors to justice. Maintain internal security and pursue suspected traitors.

CPS:
Committee of Public Safety (April 1793).  Mainly dealing with the economy and the political stuff. Supervise and speed up activities of the ministers. Dealt with the appointment of ministers and its legislation.

Both of them would be the machinery of the Terror
I actually have no idea what I'm saying or talking about.
