On this topic: btw I'll be (hoping to, anyway) going to VSL for Chinese (SLA hopefully) next year (and do first year uni at the same time ... :P). Chose to do VCE Chinese instead of at Uni because that could take up too much of my breadth. Plus my ATAR gets recalculated ... just kidding
Maybe some of you guys could consider this too?

I think doing Chinese at university would have its merits or even joining societies would be great too! However if you were doing Chinese then maybe try doing it elsewhere than VSL maybe (for Chinese the better ones are the smaller providers like XJS or Chinese Culture School Australia).

You can speak and write in 3 different languages... That's amazing! What languages specifically?

I speak fluently spanish and italian and i can undestand a bit of Portuguese.

wow that's awesome! if you don't mind me asking, why didn't you do them in VCE? If your school didn't have them there's always distance ed or VSL (is that what it's called idk)

I didnt know what vce was :/ i randomly selected my subjects, its not bad though, im getting good marks in all of them and i quite enjoy them :) Its good to important on the positive otherwise its very hard to not be put down by all the crappy stuff that happens

Reminds me of this guy at my school who picked up 3/4 Japanese in year 12 without having done 1/2. And pulled off a 40.

What the hell, either Japanese 3/4 is really easy to pick up or he has a background in Japanese.

Had my LOTE Oral today.
Don't think that went down too well :'( :-\

Oh well, I guess I just have to move on and look towards written exams.
I had mine for the same subject last Tuesday. It's really hard to tell how you went walking out of the exam, I found.

At the end of the day, you will not have wanted to say everything you wanted to and that's just a sad truth that everyone has to deal with. I accidentally brought up a point about how Berliners have different attitudes to people in Melbourne and then they immediately asked 'how exactly are they different?' and I didn't have a clue what to answer with... A girl in my class got asked to explain whether or not people should be allowed to climb Uluru or why one of her resources had a specific title. What's my point? You can't prepare for everything, and they don't expect you to be perfect in your language, anyway.

If you found it particularly hard, know that you're not alone. Also take satisfaction in the fact that examiners typically ask harder questions to students they deem to be at the higher end. We've still got tons of time before the German written exam, so just keep working at it and remember that the written exam is worth tons more than the oral at any rate!

I got eaten by my examiner, he asked a question that was so ridiculously off the charts that halfway through the other examiner interrupted and said it was a bit weird. Would I still get penalised for that? (I did 22k words of preparation in my gen convo, but my examiner asked about whether my parents adopted a male-dominant philosophy and I'm just like what even?!)

Wow I have no idea how to even answer that in english. Did you give any indication you were a background speaker (just my assumption, since at my rural school we only get asked the basics each year)? Given even the other examiner interrupted, I would say don't worry :). Him asking you such a challenging question is actually a pretty good indication that you were doing really well, and that they were 'testing' you for the jump from a 9 to a 10/10 so to speak.

When you start scoring better in Specialist exams than in Methods exams....  :o

Also, less than a week till English now. Not looking forward to it but at least it will all be over soon.

There doesn't seem to be many separator questions in the specialist exams. My main issue is time  :( I take about half an hour longer to do a spesh exam 2 than a methods one. Have to get far far quicker

Basically just going to memorise two essays for context and text response and then i'm actually half decent at language analysis so I should be able to pull off a 7 or 8 for that. Pretty much just want to get it over with
