My head-start week finishes tomorrow! :D I'm doing the maths trifecta next year and picking up biol from scratch, should be an interesting year and hopefully quite fun since these subjects are much more enjoyable for me compared to the ones I had this year!

are you guys cereal???

not going anywhere...be all alone studying here haha. have you guys gotten your subject selection/teachers/timetables for next yr yet?? our schools going a bit slack at it...nothing's organised yet so i dunno what to study or anything.
Oh just organise meetups with your friends during the holidays :)
We got our timetable for headstart a couple of weeks ago so we knew what subjects we got a while back except official timetable comes out next year though the classes we're in plus the teachers we have are generally the same!

I'm going to nowhere too! Probably working/studying LOL  :P

I only just found out my subjects which I picked but I changed my mind and I am going to change them. We only have our orientation beginning next week and we find out our teachers and timetables next year!  :o
(except for the subjects with only 1 teacher)

What subjects are you doing? :)

I'm doing English, Methods, Spesh, Chemistry and Economics ( sad to drop philosophy because I really enjoy it as a discipline, but needed to be done).

What subjects did you originally choose?

haha man my school feels so dodgy compared to you guys, like they don't know what they're doing hahaha...we go back next week to do error analysis over our exams while teachers figure out our timetables/subjectsfor next yr. Immediately after we have orientation week and then holidays. Right now i'm in limbo with like nothing to do haha...can't relax 'cause i'm nervous about my scores, can't prepare 'cause I don't now if my subjects are approved!!

Speaking of which my subjects for next year (hopefully?!) are revolutions, english, classical studies, legal studies and economics. I took 3/4 literature this year too. :) :) im reaaaally excited for my subjects next year! especially history which i absolutely adore!! part of me is really pumped to study for next year and to love what i'm learning :))) I'm kinda nervous because i'm picking up both revs and eco from scratch but i think the content is really fascinating!!

how about you guys?? how do you feel about your subjects??

my friends are nerdier than i am hahaha....their parents are organising a bajillion trillion majilllion tutors for 'em. be all on my lonesome. :( at least this computer won't ever leave me  :'(  :'(  :'(

since these subjects are much more enjoyable for me compared to the ones I had this year!

i totally echo this haha...i have seen the last of you mathematics!! good luck for next week stupidprodify!! i always find orientation week especially nerve wracking!! :)

how does everyone feel about next yr?? anticipation? excitement?? part of me is still super hyped about finishing my first 3/4 and super nervous about receiving my score for it!

YAY HUMANITIES KID :D
Everyone on AN is like mathsy/sciencey though haha :P
My school is pretty shit/dodgey too btw lol

I'm really nervous about receiving my scores for my 3/4s and yeah haha.
But I kinda want that day to happen.

I don't know yet how I feel about next year. For some reason, I'm not as scared having already done 2 3/4s, and plus this year I did 5 1/2s so I know how to handle pressure.

I just hope next year I can be happy haha  :)

Hey VCEers, recently I have been contemplating whether to independently finish off topics of my subjects on the holidays or not. I think it will give me an upper hand next year as I will already be familiar with the content prior to the classes but If I do, what am i going to do in class, I mean I cant take notes because I would have already taken notes from the independent study? Please guys feel free to leave your opinions, thanks

omg do you get any holiday hw for methods?

Anyway, for methods I would strongly recommend to get as much of the questions done as possible! You don't have to do every question :P but at least do it so that you get a solid grasp of the topic

You may forget throughout the year but your memory will be refreshed once your teacher teaches it in class.

I would say take notes from the teacher. I had a strict teacher and we were forced to take her notes but it was very helpful and I just use her notes lol :P (find it easier to comprehend than the textbook) - you also can redo some of the questions, or you can just do questions you haven't done yet!

I would recommend to work ahead, then you can finish the course by yourself earlier and start practice exams! I wish I so did that for myself haha :(

good luck! :D
good job to those of you who intend on studying during the holidays ;)

For methods, we were assigned  questions from the whole of Chapter 1, but I intend to do more than just chapter 1, probably the whole 9! LOL :P (serious though)

If not though, I will definitely still finish off extra chapters in the holidays, so when we go over it in class my knowledge of the content will be tremendously deep, allowing me to exemplify my weaknesses. Think this is a good idea though?

Btw, you are experienced with the Year 12 exam stress, so how early do you realistically think I should start studying for the exams?

Thanks for the help though, I hope you did well on your methods exam!
Plus, are you planning to go ahead in your subjects on the holidays, or just relax?

Literally start practice exams AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

But obviously only if you're ready and you've learnt the whole course!
And idk what textbook you're using but if you can get most of the chapter reviews correct then start practice exams!

I would say AIM to start around July-ish (note: cos you'll have other year 12 subjects) so try and do a practice paper or two a week, and then around October try and do one every 2-3 days! (or every day in November)...

Idk what resources you/your school will have, but my school bought many commercial papers for us from like the year 2000 onwards for methods, so we printed off those and did them (I didn't get much time to do them tbh :P - so planning ahead is good!) also you can borrow books from your school library like NEAP or A+ where they have practice papers too!

So yeah, basically I recommend starting asap! (maybe rest up for the rest of the year, wait until new year or something)
Good luck  :D

In my holidays, I will relax and TRY to study but I don't think I will get much done. I needa revise over Eng Lang subsystems (oops :P ) and then I will try and write my oral (gen convo + det study) for German! And revise heaps of German grammar cos I slacked off this year!  :)

Alright, thank you so much for the advice and tips, I appreciate it!
Have fun studying for German, the word 'German' itself sounds so pale and I can tell how much you dislike the subject haha  8) 8)

What book are you using for Methods?
And if you haven't done GMA then I highly suggest learning all of calculus by the holidays (so Chapters 9-10 in Essentials) and maybe go through Integration too if you have time. This will help you later on when you're doing questions in Specialist whilst in Methods, literally half the questions will involve some sort of application of calculus imo.

The revision chapters in the textbooks are sufficient for Methods I feel especially the extended response (for Essentials) so have a crack at those throughout the year too!

As for me, I'll be trying to finish off the first four chapters of most of my subjects whilst reading my texts over the holidays  unless I get a hold of the coursework schedule before school ends which will change how I will approach these holidays :)
